| Answers: Can anyone help with decorating ideas for a log cabin by the ocean? I like mermaids, otters, and shells but I also like rustic and barnwood. We just bought a log cabin, very near the ocean. What are some decorating ideas, especially for curtains? |
| Tommie, I would not put fabric curtains near the sea as they will get mouldy when your place is closed up. What about reed or bamboo blinds that you can let down or take up depending on the time of day and the weather ? Even bead curtains could look really cute. Canvas would be good, and is very practical. Hope my advice helps. |
| It is a good idea for you to get a log cabin. Well as for me bead curtain would look better, cooler, and more unique. I have a very nice impression when it comes to barnwood because I feel like it is really cool for some furniture or rooms made. But of course, it will require you extra effort for the maintenance of it, most especially when it is nearer to the sea. |
| That is true. Barnwood indeed are great pieces to be converted into furniture and some other things inside the house. My grandpa used to have this barn way back in my younger years. The barn had been our playground as well. But my grandpa had to put down the barn for the safety of the animals and the people working there too. And what he did is he use those old barn woods in making great looking furniture. |
| I will second (or third) the suggestion not to use fabric curtains, but I personally don't like the look of bead curtains. Some bamboo or plastic blinds might fit nicely in my opinion, and even though it is a log cabin, as you are by the ocean you can get away with a shell/mermaid look, as long as any mermaids aren't too "cartoony" if you know what I mean. |
| A log cabin by the ocean is a very bright idea for a property or a living haven for that matter. A good lighting will be of great help because you do not need to inject a lot of budget on it since the ocean provide for it. Barnwood is a good material, I can't argue with that. A bunch of pillows for the day bed in the side facing the ocean will be comfy. |
