| how to gain horse experince this summer? I have been riding for four years, off an on for the first year. And I got my horse own horse a year ago. He can be challenging as he is only five, but he's good and he tries, he's just green. But i have help from a trainer. But I really want to gain more experience with horses. I eventually want to completely train a horse by myself from the beginning. My trainer though she doesn't really train horses just gives lessons to people on their horses and helps them with each other. And she doesn't have any horses of her own that I could learn from. I mentioned to her that I eventually want to break my own horse, and she said we could probably find someone that would let us do it, if we didn't charge, but then I'd feel I'd have to pay her for her time, and my parents won't want that. My farrier does have some horse and she said i could help train as well as do chores, but there all older and aren't that hard to ride she just wants to make them even better. I mean some of them have problems, that would be beneficial to me, and she is right across from my barn. But like i said i want to try to break my own horse, eventually, when im ready. So maybe I should advertise and ask trainers if they want help with colt starting, or re-training problem horses, and if I could find someone that has a variety of horses to handle, and i could help with small issues and then work my way on the colt starting. And maybe they'd let me help with the horses when they aren't around once they trust me and my skills. Do you think anyone would let me help them? Would I have to muck stalls in exchange for helping them with training? I am only fifteen, but very responsible. I'd only do it during the summer, and I can't drive myself yet so it should only be thirty minutes or less. But I'd want to work with a trainer, who's methods I agree with....should i advertise on craigslist? what should i do, I really want to become knowledgeable but don't know anyone who could |
