neighbors horse is very aggressive on the ground and when lunging? - Old Barn Challenges
| neighbors horse is very aggressive on the ground and when lunging? My neighbors 3 year old paint mare is very very aggressive, she will turn into you, spin around, cow kick, buck, and rear. My neighbor is a 13 year old girl. I've tried to tell her that her mare is to much horse for her, but she loves her so much she won't get rid of her. I've tried to help out with lunging but, her mare ran me over so I've stopped. When walking this horse on the lead line, she will spin around, walk into you, or pop up occasionally. When on the lunge line she will buck, kick, rear, turn her butt to you, try to crowd you. My thinking is my neighbor let her get off to easily when she was maybe a year or two younger. The weird thing is, the mare behaves somewhat better when my 9 year old TB is around. Her horse lives across the street, in a run in shed by her self, with two lamas next door. She is walked across the street to my barn, were there are 10 horses. Two geldings including my boy, one stallion, and seven mares. At first I figured she was acting up because of lack of work (she hadn't be ridden in 5-6 months after she threw her owner the 13 year old girl off), then I figured it was because she was in a new place, (new smells, sights, and new horses), then I was told she was in heat and I thought she was acting up because she was in heat and could hear the stallion. So recently my neighbor started working her in her small round pen, but was charged, and kicked at. So I have no idea what is causing her bad behavior. I don't know if now she's challenging my neighbor because she was used to being in charge and now my neighbor is starting to try and take control. They have tried other trainers, and were bailed on. Some of them stopped coming. I understand you have to reprimand a horse for bad behavior, but if you try to reprimand this horse you have to watch out for a hoof to come back at you once you do. So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I'm contemplating letting my gelding out with her, hopefully if she has another horse to be with sh |
