An Old Friend - Old Barn Stories
| An Old Friend One day while out cruising the back roads I met an old man by the name of Geoffery Barber. I had stopped at what I thought was an abandoned farm to take some pictures when this old man emerged from the house. I started talking to him and found out that he lived there since he was 15 years old. He was 83 years old at that time. The farm was located way back and woods and had no electricity. He even had to carry his water up from the brook as his crock had caved in years earlier. He showed me around his farm while telling me stories and letting me take pictures. Then he asked me if I wanted to see his old tractor. The tractor turned out to be a 1926 McCormick Deering that his father purchased back in the thirties. They used that machine up until 1976 when he then purchased a newer tractor after his father had passed away. The following spring I dropped in for another visit. After getting him to show me his old tractor again, he asked me if I would like to see his guitar. We went onto his and soon as he took the guitar out of the case the music began. As you can see he was very talented. What a great old guy. I never seen him after that as he took sick the next winter and died shortly after. After everything was auctioned off, the old house and barn were torn down. Rest in Peace Geoff. |
