Answers: Any ideas for a RUSTIC window covering?

Thank author of this post/commentI am redoing my bathroom in a rustic style - Earthtones - twig-shelves, some barnwood, etc. (Not hillbilly-rustic, but more Rocky Mountain Lodge rustic.) I'm going to use sticks from trees in my yard to make a curtain rod for the window. The window already has wood shutters on the lower half of the window. We live in the Mountains, so I don't need any type of "privacy curtain", just something stylish. There used to be a valence on that window, but I think I'd like to do something different. And, I'll probably make it myself. Any ideas?

What about lengths of wooden beads, all the same size and shape, or all different sizes and shapes. Thread the beads onto string or even leather strips, and hang them from your twig rod at the intervals you want. You could even paint the beads different colours if you wanted to, but seeing as you are going for the rustic look, plain wood would look great.

I think it is a good idea to use rustic style for windows most especially you live around the mountains. It would actually look more natural and cooler. In fact, I also use rustic style with my own wooden furniture and they seem nice to look at. But it will require a good maintenance so that it would lose its quality right away.

Well I think it is stylish also.

Wow! Lengthy wooden beads as a rustic window covering is simply a fantastic idea. I love the fact this is going to be used to a bathroom, for sure, it will add color and drama to the effect, if I may add, why don't you add putting some plants inside the bathroom. I think it will all good as a whole. I just wish you good luck in the redecorating of your room.

There are really lots of great uses for old barn woods. There are these barn woods in our old house and my father used them to build some good furniture that we bring in our newly renovated guest room. Better for our guests, because those furniture are far more beautiful than what we are seeing in some furniture stores.

If you have old barn woods, do not just waste them. Transform them to something new and beautiful.

If you are going for the wood curtain rods and shutters, then good old fashioned lace curtains should give you the rustic look that you want, especially if you can find older more intricate looking patterns without actually pictures in the lace designs. If you are getting sticks from trees in your yard, I would suggest doing something to cure them of insects, mold, and fungi before putting them in your bathroom.
