| Answers: Get My horse to go on trail by herself? I have a 7 year old mare, she is stuborn as hell and she refuses to go on a trail by herself, gets to the first corner she freezes ears go straight up, and when i kick her forward she turns to go back to the barn, so i have tried stoping her making her stand for about 10 seconds then turn and trying to make her go but then she will just back up, and she keeps backing up until she hits something (fence, tree etc.)and then turns and trys to return to barn again, I am not one to give up easly and neither is she, the more i push her the more she fights and the more she fights the more i do. so i just end up getting very fusterated. She has been on these trail before, and i bought her from the lady at the barn we are at and she used to use her for trails. But just cant seem to get her to go on her own. and I love to trail ride, and will be leading alot of trails this summer and would love to lead on my own horse cause its where im most comfortable, so please any sugestions (besides hitting her with a crop etc.) will be muchly apreciated. and just one last thing, i am a farly new rider and horse owner, so i am kinda learning as i go, and i refuse to use a abusive methods, i have to said to my mom(we also owns her) there are only a few reasons we should hit her (bits, kicks things like that). I dont not belive in hitting animals, no matter how big! |
