Answers: How can I stop my mare from playing "catch me if you can"? - Uses for Old Barns
| Answers: How can I stop my mare from playing "catch me if you can"? I have a 6 year-old Thoroughbred/Mustang mare that LOVES to play "catch me if you can" when I go out to the paddock to get her. She used to be boarded with a TB mare and I worked with her until we overcame the game. I recently moved barns so now she's boarded with about 7 other horses and her old habits have come back. It's like a game to her because she runs around for roughly 30 minutes, not letting me get near enough to touch her, but once I make contact with her body (even if its just brushing my fingers on her barrel) she stops running and is like "oh darn you tagged me. I'll behave now. I take out grain every time I go to get her, I don't always work her when I bring her in and I've recently started just going out there to see her but not actually bringing her in. Is there anything else I can do to stop her bad behaviour? Sophie: when I bring her in and don't work her I usually feed her a little bit of grain (she's an easy keeper and doesn't need the extra nutrients). I take out a bit of grain to get her as well or I'll take out peppermints (she semi-responds to the wrapper), but she still likes to walk or trot in circles around me. If I don't touch her before she does those things (licking lips, stopping and standing still, etc) she'll let me come up to her when she does finally give in so it's not really an issue of getting signals crossed (her giving up and me saying "no lets keep going"). |
| A lot of us own an old barn and we are able to make use of the old materials when it gets destructed. In my case, I tried to renovate my old barn and turn it into a small rest house. I feel cool whenever I stay there. It is only made by light materials and other old woods I have taken from the old barn. It is really nice now. |
