Questions: how do i fix a horse that is head/ear shy?

Thank author of this post/commentso i used to ride this horse, her name is mine' (pronounced mah-nay) and she is an off the track Thoroughbred. she's 21 now, kinda old. and she has naicular and melanoma so she is unridable. and she is my baby, i love her so much. she follows me around the pasture, she perks her ears whenever i come into the barn. she has even nickered to me a couple of times. we have a huge bond. and ever since i've known her she's been head/ear shy. mostly her ears. she giraffes (puts her nose into the air) whenever anyone tries to touch her ears. sometimes she lets me touch them, but that's just cause she trusts me. but i hate to see her upset. and i play with her all the time. like grooming and stuff like that. haha, but *cough* anyway. do any of you know any "natural" horseman ship techniques to desensitize a horse to having her ears and head touched. OH! and i forgot to mention that she was abused on the track, she was beat and shocked because she didn't like to run. and larger men would beat her, which caused her to be afraid of men for years, she's not anymore. and i understand that horses that were abused in the past are sometimes head shy. and that's why i want to learn a way to help her, because she went through a lot in her years and i want to make her understand that we won't hurt her. i'm a girl by the way. :)

Oh too bad for your lovely horse. Well it is not too late. You can still save it by showing love and care for your horse. Give it much comfort by feeding well and giving adequate shelter in the barn. If you have an old barn, you can probably change the setting so that your horse has a place to stay in its comfort. Good luck to you. Great day.
