| Video: Closson Chase Vineyards Inc. Located in Prince Edward County WELCOME TO CLOSSON CHASE Closson Chase is a quality-driven producer that has helped spearhead the birth of the Prince Edward County wine industry. Since 1999, it has been committed to creating distinctive wines that rival the world's finest. Set in Hillier, Ontario, the estate is over 30 acres of south facing, limestone-rich soil under vine; planted high density to the classic Burgundian-varietals of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with small yields, French-inspired vinification and careful barreling in 100% French oak. But more than that, it is a place of great inspiration. Viticulturalist (and iconoclast) Deborah Paskus is one of Canada's most celebrated winemakers. Deborah uses innovative viticultural techniques; she is devoted to dirt -- rich, pesticide-free and pure as possible. The vineyards are farmed organically and moving towards biodynamics. Deborah wants what is placed in the bottle to represent as natural an expression of the vineyard as possible. Closson Chase, in addition to it's estate grown wines, produces both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from vineyards it leases in the Niagara Peninsula. It's tasting room is housed in a century-old barn that has been totally restored with a twenty-first century flair. In 2007 Closson Chase opened a new, gravity-fed, state of the art production facility with two underground barrel rooms that are climate controlled using geothermal heating and cooling. | It is really nice to see that there are a several ways that we can do to utilize old barns. I also have my own old barn and I keep some products right there that I use for the farm. It is still in good condition so I just make use of it. I also appreciate the Closson Chase Vineyards, Inc. I think they are wise enough to take advantage of the wide acre in the county and to make good produce. |
Same here. I would just throw in my old stuffs in my old barn. It serves as a stockroom for me as well. If I have to keep some stuffs I put it in there and keep it locked. But anyway, we are living in a safe neighborhood so I am confident that nobody would come crashing the door of that old barn. Anyway, have a great day to all.
Some people really know their wine. I guess these are the more learned or the more affluent people in the society. They take time out to learn more about different types of wine from different countries, what they taste like, when they were produced and all that information, which could seem senseless to other people. Vineyards have a tasting room like Closson Chase Vineyards has. Looks like their tasting room puts them back in time when the wine that their guests are tasting where first bottled into wine.
Same is true with me. Adapting a barn to a non-farm use purposes requires a careful planning. I have considered adapting my old barn to new uses when it is no longer possible to used it for farming. Right now, I am also using it as my storage room for my old things that are not used anymore although my barn was also my favorite hiding place when I was a kid. By just looking, I can still remember my childhood memories.
I grew up on a farm and am always glad to see interest in refurbishing old barns. In addition to many good memories, there is a historical factor there that can help tell the story of te settlement of the land.
